Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Alcona Elementary as a Paraprofessional. This full-time position is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs and fostering a positive educational environment. The Paraprofessional will work closely with teachers and other staff to assist in the implementation of instructional programs, provide individualized support to students, and contribute to the overall success of the school community.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in the delivery of instructional activities and lesson plans.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them understand and complete assignments.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers regarding student needs and concerns.
- Support students with special needs, including those with IEPs, by implementing accommodations and modifications as directed.
- Help maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Assist with classroom management and promote positive behavior among students.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop and implement effective strategies for student engagement and success.
- Prepare and set up instructional materials and resources for lessons.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.
- Perform clerical duties related to student records and classroom organization.
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, and other activities as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of child development and educational best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting student learning and growth.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and administrators.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and familiar with educational technology.
- Ability to lift and assist students as needed, including those with mobility challenges.
- Background check clearance as required by state regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Paraprofessional assists the building in a wide variety of support services including providing related supplemental
instructional services at the direction of a highly-qualified teacher. In addition to instructional support, Paraprofessionals
provide student supervision during passing times, lunch and recess periods, and other portions of the day as directed.
Specifically, the following outline the essential duties of the role:
Instructional Paraprofessional Duties/Responsibilities:
● Monitor student completion of various classroom assignments
● Provide direct individual instructional support to students under the direction of a highly-qualified teacher.
● Assist in the maintenance of individual student progress records and/or personal care MEDICAID
documentation.
● Participate in necessary training at the direction of the building principals.
● Perform other Title I or At-Risk duties as assigned.
General Paraprofessional Duties/Responsibilities:
● Manage student classroom activities outside of classroom instruction including toileting support
● Be trained and prepared to support students with crisis prevention intervention
● Perform classroom maintenance as required.
● Assist with the organization of daily classroom schedules and events calendars.
● Implement rules of student conduct.
● Maintain order in the educational environment.
● Assist students with problem solving when adjustment and academic problems arise.
● Maintain school records as required
● Perform or assist physical management of students in crisis and when in danger or hurting themselves or others.
● Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or
ability required.
Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education: An Associate’s Degree or a minimum of 60 credit hours issued by a degree granting institution of
higher learning or a passing score on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment.
Skills:
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and
external stakeholders.
● Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

● Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing
exemplary customer service.
● Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given,
prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
● Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to quickly locate electronic and hard copy records.
