- Keep school buildings and grounds neat, clean and safe, including: sidewalks, driveways, athletic fields, track, parking lots, event facilities, and play areas.
- Clear, sweep, and shovel snow, and treat areas as appropriate.
- Assist with meeting room and lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.
- Assist in setting up facilities for special events. Move objects, set up and break down equipment and bleachers.
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff. Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to building principals or supervisor(s).
- Assist in regulation of heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Treat the swimming pool with appropriate chemicals. Supervise those who check and maintain appropriate chemical levels. (EHS only)
- Assist with opening and/or closing the building each school day checking to ensure that all exit doors are open, and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities. Ensure all doors and windows are secured and all lights are turned off at the close of school each day.
- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Maintain and provide upkeep of machines, equipment, and vehicles assigned to the school.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work areas and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor(s).
- Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, whiteboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
- Order, maintain, and distribute an adequate inventory of equipment and supplies as assigned.
- Keep accurate records of all supplies and equipment, including MSDS sheets. Monitor and ensure safety regarding all chemicals brought into the building.
- Clean meeting rooms, classrooms, and office floors daily. Empty pencil sharpeners and trash. Replace bags. Dust and straighten furniture. Clean whiteboards and classroom sinks.
- Clean corridors each day. Dust locker tops and clean and repair as needed. Clean drinking fountains daily.
- Mop restroom floors and clean all sanitary fixtures daily. Clean mirrors. Fill soap, towel, and toilet paper dispensers.
- Clean large classroom and event areas such as gymnasium, cafeteria, multipurpose room, auditorium, locker rooms, and stage as assigned.
- Replace light bulbs as needed. Remove gum, tape, and marks from the floor and walls throughout the building. Dust walls as needed. Clean air return and vent louvers as needed. Dust window ledges. Buff and recoat floor as needed. Wash windows inside and outside at least twice each year and more regularly in high traffic areas.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
- Requires the ability to frequently use power tools and equipment, including but not limited to a floor buffer/stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, other hand tools, shampooer, lawn mower, edger, and weed eater.
- Requires the ability to work inside and outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, on or around vehicles and machinery with moving parts, and exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases).

Positions work year round, 4 hours per day. Base hourly rate is $15.82. Additional compensation for past work-related experience and level of education may be granted.
Purpose: Clean and maintain district facilities using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, attractiveness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.
