Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain cemetery facilities, grounds, sidewalks, roads, and equipment. Mow grounds with large tractors and mowers, prune trees and trim shrubs, remove dead trees, limbs, and shrubs and remove stumps with backhoe or other heavy equipment; rake, blow, and remove leaves and plant matter and pick up debris.  Plant and maintain flowers, bushes, trees, and turf.
  • Assist in preparing burial sites for interments by opening graves, removing excess dirt, cleaning site, and setting up area for graveside service including tent and chairs as needed.  Assist in closing graves by filling, tamping, seeding, and cleaning grave sites.
  • Assist in preparing crypts for entombments and niches for inurnments by removing front marble and concrete slabs using mausoleum lift when needed, sweeping out crypts or niches, placing caskets in crypt or urn in niche, sealing concrete slabs and replaces marble fronts, and setting up area for service.
  • Dig, construct forms, and pour footings for marker foundations.  Set, realign and reset markers.


Required Qualifications:

This position requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.  Previous experience in the operation of maintenance equipment preferred. Requires possession of a valid Class D driver's license. Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
