Job Description

Capital Materials is looking for a QC Tech for the 2026 Paving season! If you are interested in learning about QC and becoming a QC Tech, even if you do not have experience, apply today! This position will cover the Sedalia Quarry and also travel to several quarries during day at times if the night shift is not operating.



The Quality Control Lab Technician performs inspections, checks, and tests for quality of the material to be utilized in the manufacturing of asphalt, ensuring product quality and compliance with applicable specifications.



RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Provides verbal and/or written tests results and reports to the QC Manager and staff.

  • Enforce quality control and Company safety policies on all aspects of the work

  • Cut core samples from roadway and test in a timely manner

  • Conducts tests on aggregate and asphalt

  • Perform mathematical calculations to verify physical and volumetric properties

  • Communicate daily with QC Technician/Manager and the Roadway Technician

  • Calculates pay factors and tonnage totals on daily lab reports

  • Responsible for set up, adjustment and operation of laboratory/testing equipment. 

  • Work around industrial equipment and machinery to obtain materials samples. 

  • Record test results in a timely manner.

  • Report and communicate test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required).

  • Clean, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment. Inspect stockpiles for proper construction; inspect haul units for cleanliness; Maintain test data files; assist in investigating and resolving customer technical problems.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, or the ability to learn, safety rules and equipment including identification of precautions for and emergency response to chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards, and asphyxiating, toxic and explosive gases and vapors.

  • Demonstrates good workmanship in a neat and timely manner.

  • Must be able to work in a variety of positions throughout the day including standing, stooping, bending at the waist, at waist level, shoulder height and above the head. The job location is in all areas as required in our geographical work area.
