Job Description:

This is a field position in Southeast Nebraska, working to enforce state and federal laws and regulations for the manufacture, distribution, or sale of animal feed and ingredients intended for use by animals.

Location: Work from home based office in counties of: Cass, Clay, Fillmore, Gage, Hall, Hamilton, Jefferson, Johnson, Lancaster, Nemaha, Nuckolls, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, Saline, Seward, Thayer, and York.

Job Duties:

• Inspecting commercial feed license holders who manufacture, distribute, or store livestock feed and pet food.

• Writing inspection reports and communicating results of inspections to the firm and the department.

• Reviewing labeling and production documentation for livestock feed and pet food.

• Obtaining animal feed samples for analysis and submitting to the laboratory.

• Assist other NDA divisions as necessary.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework/training in agriculture, plant/animal or natural sciences, or other program related field OR a vocation certificate in electrical, mechanical, engineering or other program related field. AND Two years’ experience working in a relevant discipline.

Preferred Qualifications: College degree in Agriculture or biological science. Experience in animal science, agricultural production or regulatory work.

Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.


 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Read and interpret state and federal animal feed laws and explain to stakeholders in order to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance.

• Basic computer skills in Microsoft office - Outlook, Word, Excel

• Utilizing electronic devices to capture inspection data in a prompt and efficient way

• Ability to walk on rough terrain, climb stairs and ladders if necessary

• Work in hot, cold, or dusty environments

• Be able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis

• Comply with protocols and procedures for the department and at the regulated firms

• Legally drive a state-owned vehicle
