Salary:  $21.62 to $23.52 per hour

About the Role:    Under supervision of the County Engineer and Assistant County Engineer, is responsible for providing technical assistance on specific projects. Performs technical duties requiring the application of advanced knowledge and skill in drafting, GIS mapping, land surveying, construction surveying, and planning substantial portions of highway projects. 


This is a Temporary Summer Intern position that runs from May through August.
Essential Job Duties:  
  1. Performs inspection of construction projects, assists on survey crew, prepares required documentation and reports. 
  2. Prepares a variety of maps, plans, and similar drawings for highway construction, using GIS software, AutoCAD and other resources.
  3. Performs computation of materials needed, earthwork quantities, land survey geometry and other calculations, and tracks costs of projects. 
  4. Prepares or assists in the preparation of plans for substantial portions of highway projects, and detailed final plans from preliminary sketches.
  5. Review plans and estimates for clearing right-of-way needed for highway construction.
  6. Assists in the administration of the road approach program and monitoring of the striping programs.
  7. Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

  •  Must be high school graduate or GED certified, 18 years of age or above, and completion of two-year highway engineering technician degree, 1-3 years engineering technician related experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must posses a valid Class D North Dakota drivers license with a clean driving record.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS software, MUTCD signing requirements, the instruments, equipment, and material used, and the methods, techniques, and practices in the appropriate specialty.
  • Must have reasonable interpersonal communication skills and be able to interact with fellow employees, professional staff, contractors, and the public.
  • Must have the ability to produce handwritten reports, documents, and notes that are neat and legible.
  • Must be able to perform varied activities in a manner conducive to full performance levels and high morale.
