Job Description

Whidbey Telecom is a community-focused telecommunications provider based in Langley, WA. The Fiber Splicing Technician supports fiber installation, splicing, testing, documentation, and service restoration while providing professional, customer-first service.



Key Responsibilities

• Install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper facilities in Outside Plant (OSP) and on customer premises (as needed).

• Perform single-fiber and ribbon splicing, including splice-on connectors; prep, clean, dress, and protect fibers to company standards.

• Install and maintain splice enclosures/closures, pedestals, terminal access points, patch panels, and related OSP/ISP components.

• Use test equipment and best practices (e.g., OTDR, power meter/light source) to validate builds, isolate faults, and restore service.

• Read and follow design plans, cable prints, splicing diagrams, and as-builts; coordinate field changes with Engineering as needed.

• Respond to trouble tickets, outages, and damaged cable events; troubleshoot faults, coordinate repairs, and restore service.

• Locate Whidbey Telecom facilities and assist with identifying privately owned utilities/facilities to protect infrastructure.

• Document work performed, test results, materials used, and time in required systems; keep accurate as-built updates.

• Provide professional customer communication while on-site; explain work clearly and represent Whidbey Telecom with service excellence.

• Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, callouts, and an on-call rotation as assigned.

• Support training/best practices for peers and perform other related duties as assigned.
