Key Responsibilities
- Analyze engineering drawings to determine size and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of the operations processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities.
- Design manifold systems using customer information to create 3D models and production prints.
- Under limited supervision, uses computer to prepare complex layouts, drawings, and designs according to customer data and/or blueprint information. Generates cutter paths and reviews engineering drawings and supporting documents to verify adherence to standard practices of the company. Resolves complex design problems.
- Produces CNC programs for production using 3D CAD/CAM software.
- Prepares Bills of Material (B.O.M.) for all components designed and released to the shop. Updates, files, copies, and issues drawings and B.O.M. as required.
- Releases final engineering drawings and specifications to the shop. Supports the shop by implementing drawing revisions and researching necessary information.
- Understanding and ability to update and modify post generators and databases associated with CAD/CAM software.
- Interfaces with customers concerning design problems, part prints, concurrent engineering of their parts, and the feasibility of production.
- Plan, specify, justify, and procure new or upgrade tooling to achieve productivity, quality or cost reduction goals.
- Addresses and documents cause and issue corrective action to prevent future problem occurrences.

Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years in operations, manufacturing/engineering experience, preferably in the Tool and Die industry.
- Experience in computer aided design 3D (CAD) software and computer aided manufacturing (CAM/CAD) software.
- Ability to design a tool from an engineering concept.
- Must be knowledgeable of geometric, design, and tolerance.
- Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and/or Six Sigma training preferred.
- Prior new product introduction experience a plus.
- Able to program the most complex machines available at the site (i.e.- 4 or more axis).
- Knowledge of computers and electronics, computer numerical control, basics of programming, and computer-aided manufacturing.
- Team oriented; Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexibility and adaptable to a changing work environment and work assignments.
- Able to influence engineering and leadership in identifying and building simplified set-up techniques to simplify complex set-ups.
- Able to work with limited direction.
- Working knowledge of basic math, and the ability to use measuring tools (Gages, Faro Arm, etc.)
- Able to solve complex problems using analytical judgment and initiative.
- Able to read and understand standard and geometric tolerances on blueprints.
- Physical Dexterity.
- Mechanically inclined.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline preferred.
- 5 to 7 years’ machinist experience operating various CNC machines with apprenticeship programs, informally on the job, or training in secondary, vocational, or technical college, preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
