Description

Summary: 

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) is responsible for providing peer support services to clients in recovery. This role also includes duties typical of a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) and facilitating support groups. The PRSS works collaboratively with clients and staff to ensure the provision of recovery-oriented services and support.

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Must have lived experience of recovery from substance use or mental health conditions and be willing to share personal experiences to support others.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to engage clients in meaningful group discussions.
  • Understanding of electronic charting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work in an environment with constant exposure to clients.
  • Must have PRSS Certification

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Peer Support Specialist certification
  • Two or more years of experience in the field of substance use or mental health recovery is preferred.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides crisis assistance as needed.
  • Assists consumer in maintaining eligibility for applicable programs and conducting required evaluations within timelines specific to applicable program regulations
  • Advocates for and assists the Consumer in obtaining needed services through referrals to other programs that meet the Consumers’ needs.
  • Conducts process groups, educational, chemical dependency, and other groups as assigned daily.
  • Assist clients and staff during admissions and discharges
  • Demonstrates knowledge of chemical dependency/addictions as well as mental health and utilizes knowledge and skills to access and meet the client’s treatment needs and requirements.
  • Complies with federal, state and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all consumer information and comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports Westbrook Health Services mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards and code of ethical behavior.
