    Self-Contained Special Education Teacher in our RISE program at Pierce Downer Elementary School

    Reaching Independence through Structured Education Program, RISE � The RISE program offers an educational experience customized to support students with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder and/or related characteristics. This program supports students with language, social, regulation and academic needs. 

    Qualifications: 
    State of Illinois Professional Educator License and a Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) endorsement required.

    Salary and Benefits:
    Full Year LOA for 26/27 annual salary-$55,619 based on B Step 1 using the 2026-2027 Salary Schedule.  Click here for Salary Schedule on page 64: DGEEA Contract 2024-2027.   

    Job Summary:

    1. Plans instruction to achieve selected objectives.  Works with colleagues to coordinate the instructional planning for grade level and inter-grade level instruction.
    2. Plans a program of study in accordance with the district adopted curriculum.
    3. Plans purposeful assignments for substitute teachers.
    4. Organizes instruction to take into account individual differences among learners.
    5. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
    6. Utilizes appropriate teaching skills to accomplish selected objectives.
    7. Demonstrates appropriate presentation skills to engage students in their learning.
    8. Employs appropriate monitoring skills.
    9. Adjusts the lesson to meet individual student needs.
    10. Utilizes appropriate closure techniques.
    11. Employs appropriate assessment techniques.
    12. Applies appropriate principles of learning.
    13. Demonstrates knowledge in the content area.
    14. Communicates current and accurate knowledge in the content area in acceptable standard language.
    15. Manages the classroom to ensure the best use of instructional time and an environment that promotes learning and student responsibility.
    16. Manages classroom time effectively.
    17. Manages and provides a classroom climate that promotes self-discipline and the development of realistic and positive self-concepts.
    18. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, interest centers and the use of instructional resources when appropriate to the unit or objectives.
    19. Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal skills and maintains a professional rapport with students, staff, and parents.
    20. Performs other professional duties as assigned.
    21. Assumes responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to the school.
