Position Duties
- Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for transit operations including assisting with the development of transit routes, resolving customer complaints, reviewing safety events and coordinating payroll.
- Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for transit operations activities; identify resource needs; recommend and implement policies and procedures.
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
- Direct, coordinate and review the work plan for transit operations staff; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
- Develop transit operation schedules; analyze and review existing routes for inefficiency and effectiveness; recommend transit route modifications when necessary.
- Oversee compliance and passenger observance of all City, state and federal regulations, rules and codes for public transportation.
- Answer questions and provide information to the general public; respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Coordinate and assist with employee payroll; and timecards; investigate questionable data.
- Direct and oversee the collection and compilation of transit operations revenue.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Four years of increasingly responsible experience in mass transit, urban planning or a closely related field including two years of supervisory or managerial role.
Training:
Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public or business administration, engineering, urban or mass transit planning or a related field.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license and have the ability to obtain, within six (6) months of hire, a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements, and ability to maintain insurability; and a current DOT Medical Card.
