Job Description

BAL is a leading global immigration law firm recognized for its size, reach, and commitment to innovation. Our technology ecosystem includes Databricks for data engineering and analytics, Power BI for business intelligence, SQL databases powering our custom-built Cobalt platform, and Salesforce as our future-state business platform. Operating in a cloud-first environment leveraging Azure and AWS, we are continuing to evolve our reporting, analytics, and data engineering capabilities to support faster, insight-driven decision-making.

To accelerate this evolution, we are hiring a Director of Reporting and Data Engineering to unify data engineering, reporting, and analytics under one strategic leader. This role will elevate data as a strategic asset—modernizing our reporting stack, expanding self-service analytics, increasing automation, and building a scalable roadmap that supports the firm’s continued growth and Salesforce transformation.

Opportunity

Our reporting organization is well regarded by its internal customers and consistently delivers strong service and satisfaction. As the firm continues to grow and data needs increase in complexity and urgency, we see an opportunity to further mature our reporting and analytics model.

Today, much of our reporting effort is focused on meeting immediate business requests, with opportunities to expand proactive analytics, automation, and self-service capabilities. Our Power BI environment has room to evolve toward broader adoption and governed self-service. In parallel, reporting and data engineering functions can be more tightly aligned to improve efficiency, ownership, and scalability.

This role exists to lead that next phase—shifting from strong service delivery to a more strategic, insight-driven analytics capability that anticipates business needs and supports faster, data-informed decisions.

What You’ll Do

The Director of Reporting and Data Engineering will guide the organization toward a more proactive, scalable, and business-aligned analytics model by:

  • Embedding analytics more closely with business teams
  • Expanding self-service reporting and analytics capabilities
  • Increasing automation across reporting and data pipelines
  • Establishing clear governance, standards, and data literacy
  • Defining a long-term roadmap aligned with the firm’s Salesforce transition

This leader will unify previously separate workstreams, modernize tools and processes, and ensure the data platform scales alongside the firm.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and deliver a unified roadmap across reporting, data engineering, automation, governance, and Salesforce reporting evolution.

Business Partnership

  • Build strong relationships with business leaders and evolve the reporting model to deepen alignment and insight delivery.

Analytics Modernization

  • Modernize Power BI and Salesforce reporting with an emphasis on governed self-service analytics.
  • Evaluate and enhance visualization tools and enterprise reporting models as needed.

Salesforce Reporting Architecture

  • Define and implement reporting architecture for a Salesforce-centric environment that supports scalability and business needs.

Automation & Efficiency

  • Lead an enterprise automation strategy to significantly reduce manual reporting through standardized data models, datasets, refresh cycles, and automated pipelines.

Data Engineering & Platform Optimization

  • Own and optimize Databricks to ensure reliable, scalable data pipelines with strong SLAs, quality, and lineage.
  • Strengthen collaboration between reporting and engineering teams to improve end-to-end data delivery.

Governance & Data Enablement

  • Establish data governance standards for quality, access, cataloging, and lineage.
  • Promote data literacy and adoption across the business.

Talent Development

  • Assess, develop, and upskill the team in modern BI, data engineering, automation, and analytics practices.
  • Build a high-performing, business-aligned organization.

Measurement & Accountability

  • Define KPIs for automation, self-service adoption, proactive analytics, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide transparency to leadership on progress, outcomes, and impact.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–7 years of experience leading data engineering, reporting, or analytics teams, including large-scale modernization efforts.
  • Strong knowledge of modern data platforms (Databricks, SQL) and BI tools (Power BI).
  • Experience designing and leading Salesforce reporting architectures at an enterprise level.
  • Proven ability to evolve reporting organizations toward proactive, insight-driven analytics.
  • Expertise in self-service analytics models and automation at scale.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and change management skills.
  • Demonstrated success delivering strategic roadmaps and executing complex, cross-functional initiatives.
