Job Description

The STRONG Kids Assistant will assist in providing quality care in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment for all children and families that utilize the YMCA STRONG Kids program. All STRONG Kids staff will be responsible for the overall success of day-to-day operations of the STRONG Kids program, as well as being responsible for the high-quality childcare, which includes, but is not limited to, meeting internal and external child and parent needs. Ensures all participants are afforded a quality experience and programs reflect the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

 

Hours vary Monday through Saturday, approximately 12-15 hours per week. 

  • Provides supervisory support at the YMCA M-F 8-11am, M-Th 4-7pm, and Saturday 8am-12pm. 
  • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, inventory, incident reports, etc.). 
  • Ensure that all staff, children, and parents are respectful of YMCA property; ensure all STRONG Kids rules are followed and enforced. 
  • Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents or co-workers. 
  • Maintain open communication with the School Age Director and Coordinator. 
  • Comply with the daily cleaning procedures outlined on the cleaning list. 
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. 
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. 
  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter within 30 days of hire. 
  • 16 years of age. 
  • Previous experience working with children preferred. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for extended periods of time. 
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. 
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight. 
  • Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. 
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time. 
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. 
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. 
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency 
  • Ability to interact with and demonstrate program activities to youth.
