North Reading High School is seeking a Visual Arts Teacher to start in the 2026-2027 school year. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.
North Reading Public School Educators first contractual day is September 1, 2026. New educators are required to attend the two day new staff orientation on dates still to be determined.

Essential duties
- Unit/lesson planning covering disciplines such as digital and media arts, traditional 2D and 3D media, and others that align with department, school, and district initiatives
- Direct instruction of students in grades 9-12
- Provide timely feedback to students
- Plan and implement the Visual Arts curriculum for grades 9-12
- Evaluate individual students using department-developed common assessment tools, maintain up-to-date records of student progress, and record scores by posted deadlines
- Assist in the collection and display of student art work for annual school and district art shows as well as community events
- Collaborate with members of the K-12 Department of the Visual Arts to review, develop, and execute a rigorous district curriculum aligned to state standards
- Create a positive, inviting, and safe learning environment while modeling enthusiasm for learning and visual arts
- Develop, model, and practice class procedures and routines
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities and practices to ensure student success
- Keep accurate inventory of classroom supplies and equipment
- Manage allocated budget on classroom supplies and equipment
- Other duties as determined by the Building Principal, Assistant Principal, or their Designee
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- Masters degree preferred
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Visual Arts, grades 5-12
- Understanding of the DESE Visual Arts Frameworks
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Collaborative working demeanor
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
