Position Summary


Railbookers is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee the accounting operations supporting our Accounts Payable and Reservations Accounting functions (which includes but is not limited to AR).


This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys diving into the details while also leading a team. The Assistant Controller will supervise key accounting staff while actively participating in reconciliations, reporting, financial analysis, and process improvements.


The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with operational leadership, ensuring financial accuracy while continuously improving financial processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Financial Oversight
    • Oversee accounting operations related to reservations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
    • Ensure timely and accurate processing of final payment, issuance of refunds and payment of commissions.
    • Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions related to bookings, refunds, commissions, and vendor payments.
    • Perform and review reconciliations of accounts including vendor accounts, booking transactions, and operational financial records.
    • Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial reporting.
    • Prepare and analyze financial reports and operational data to support business decision-making.
    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in booking transactions, vendor payments, and customer balances.
  • Team Leadership
    • Supervise and mentor accounting staff responsible for AP and reservations accounting functions.
    • Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure accuracy and efficiency within the team.
    • Establish performance standards and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
  • Operational & Process Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, financial controls, and reporting processes.
    • Collaborate with operations, reservations, and finance teams to resolve financial discrepancies and improve processes.
    • Support system improvements and automation initiatives within accounting workflows.
  • Financial Controls & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
    • Maintain strong internal controls over financial transactions and reporting.
    • Assist in developing and refining accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
