We’re looking for our next Analyst, Reconciliation. Could It Be You?

The Reconciliation team is a critical pillar of Questrade’s Operations department, acting as the primary gatekeeper for the firm’s brokerage accounts. The team is responsible for the integrity of financial data across over 570 internal accounts, ensuring that every position and dollar is accounted for between Questrade’s internal books and external partners. We work in a high-stakes, collaborative environment, interfacing daily with third-party clearing services and various internal departments—such as Settlements, Corporate Actions, and Client Operations - to mitigate financial, regulatory, and reputational risk.

 

The ‘Analyst, Reconciliation’ is responsible for monitoring, auditing, and measuring in-house processes and third-party services against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and CIRO regulatory obligations. This role serves as the first point of contact for third-party administrative partners and is tasked with identifying and resolving complex breaks in the book of records. The successful candidate will ensure that all brokerage accounts are reconciled daily and/or monthly, strictly adhering to internal policies and external regulatory requirements to maintain the firm’s risk appetite and culture.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Ensure receipt and review of daily and monthly reconciliation reports from outsourced reconciliation groups and follow-up with each applicable internal department to resolve any new or aged breaks. 

  • Diligently review daily reports, including Illogical, CDS reconciliation, DTC reconciliation, CNS Reconciliation, Foreign Custody Reconciliation, Loanet Reconciliation, Balance Orders, Stock Record Breaks, Firm Balance, Suspense Account Reconciliations, No Name, Memo, and Seg Deficits. 

  • Identify, assign, and follow up on unresolved positions and aged breaks with relevant departments to ensure timely resolution.

  • Partner with internal departments (e.g., Registered Plans, Account Transfers, Physical Certificates, Corporate Actions & Income, Settlements, Clearing, Securities Lending & Finance, P&S) and business analysts to resolve complex system-level problems and cross-departmental breaks.

  • Conduct and review monthly reconciliations for all Operations teams to ensure adherence to CIRO and other regulatory standards.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve processing efficiency, reduce risk, and support the implementation of new systems or process conversions.

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with Book and Records business analysts for complex and system level problems. 

  • Utilize Excel, Google Sheets, or scripting (Python/Macros) to collect data from multiple sources and convert it into actionable financial reports.

  • Help ensure data quality and integrity across Operations actively monitoring our various data sources and ensuring data is consistent between our Book of Records and internal database.

  • Assist with staff training and cross-training initiatives to ensure departmental knowledge redundancy and professional growth.

  • Support the implementation of new processes/systems including conversions & project related activities, as required.

  • Understand departmental and client needs while collaborating with our business partners to focus on building strong relationships and encourage positive experiences.

  • Continuously seek to identify inefficiencies in view of increasing productivity, reducing risk, and improving processes, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, or a related discipline.

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in finance, accounting, or tax roles within a regulated industry, preferably within a back-office environment in the financial services industry.

  • Solid understanding of securities, accounting, and clearing operations. Completion of CSI courses (CSC, CPH) is a strong asset.

  • Advanced Excel or Google sheets skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) for complex reconciliations using large data sets.

  • Experience with the Broadridge systems and services is highly preferred.

  • Familiarity with Python, Macros, or Google Scripting is a significant advantage.

  • A CPA designation is considered an asset

  • A "detective" mindset with the ability to spot patterns in large datasets and trace the root cause of reporting errors.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with an extraordinary attention to detail.

  • A self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Strong critical thinking and ability to decompose complex concepts into simple and compelling messages.

  • Curious and engaged, who takes ownership of their own learning journey by asking questions and seeking out new information.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.

  • Deadline-driven with excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Able to multitask, and prioritize and re-prioritize workload as needed.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.

  • Completion of Financial and/or investment certifications is highly valuable.
