Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Co-Teacher


Position Summary:


The Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction, support, and accommodations to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The SPED teacher collaborates with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to create inclusive learning environments that promote student growth, independence, and success.




Key Responsibilities:




  • Develop and implement IEPs in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.




  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in resource, inclusion, or self-contained settings.




  • Differentiate instruction based on students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.




  • Modify curriculum and assessments to align with students’ IEP goals and objectives.




  • Collect data on student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.




  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented in all settings.




  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and service providers regarding student progress.




  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff development, and other professional learning activities.




  • Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and documentation required by law and district policy.




  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.



  • Other duties as assigned. 




Qualifications:




  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred).




  • Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.




  • Knowledge of special education laws (IDEA, Section 504, ADA).




  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs.




  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.




  • Ability to use assistive technology and differentiated instructional strategies.






Preferred Skills:




  • Experience with behavioral management strategies and social-emotional learning supports.




  • Familiarity with progress monitoring tools and data-driven instruction.




  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
