    Position: Brown County Schools is seeking a full-time (184 day) School Counselor or Social Worker to support the social-emotional wellness and career-connected learning needs of Preschool through Grade 5 students at Sprunica Elementary school.  Located in the heart of beautiful Brown County Indiana, Sprunica Elementary is about a 40-minute drive from Columbus, Bloomington, Greenwood or Martinsville in Nineveh, Indiana.  Over the years, Sprunica Elementary has earned a National Blue-Ribbon award and designated as an Indiana 4-Star School.

    Qualifications: Candidates must either meet the Indiana licensing requirements for School Counselor as defined by the IDOE under 515 IAC 8-1-4 or hold a Master's Degree in Social Work and license for Social Worker or Clinical Social Worker from the IPLA (IC 25-23.6-4-1).  School Counselors or Social Workers holding a Student Services License from the IDOE (515 IAC 8-1-48) are preferred however Social Workers willing to purse an IDOE license are encouraged to apply.
    Description: As a School Counselor/Social Worker you are an important part of the educational team that works to help students be ready to learn.  The school team at Sprunica Elementary consists of a Principal, teachers, special educators, a speech-language pathologist, and community-based mental health providers.  You are a critical link between the school, home, and community, bringing all systems together in the best interest of the child. 

    The Helmsburg Elementary School Counselor/Social Worker helps STUDENTS:

     

    • Develop positive problem solving and decision making skills through classroom, group, and individual work
    • Cope with stress due to situations at home, school, and in the community
    • Improve interpersonal relationships
    • Increase academic success
    • Develop self-esteem and self-discipline

     
    The Helmsburg Elementary School Counselor/Social Worker helps SCHOOLS:

     

    • Promote a safe school environment
    • Utilize available resources to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of all students
    • Develop and implement policies for the safety of all students (i.e. bullying, LGBTQ)
    • Understand how cultural, societal, socio-economic status, physical and mental health, and familial factors affect students
    • Coordinate community resources to meet students' needs
    • Educate faculty and staff in areas such as anti-bullying and Positive Behavior Supports
    • By being part of the crisis and multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention teams
    • By providing evidence-based social work services as a component of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
