SUMMARY
The role of the Motor Vehicle Operator encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, all of which center around the safe and efficient operation of various types of vehicles. These vehicles include small to medium size trucks, vans, minibuses, 28-passenger buses, forklifts, and other specialized equipment. This diverse fleet is utilized for the transportation of personnel, goods, materials, supplies, and equipment.
First and foremost, the primary duty of a Motor Vehicle Operator is to operate these vehicles in a safe manner. This requires not only driving skills but also an understanding of traffic laws and safety regulations. Operators must also possess the ability to assess road conditions and respond appropriately to any potential hazards or obstacles.
In addition to safely operating the vehicles, Motor Vehicle Operators are responsible for maintaining them in good working condition. This includes conducting routine inspections before and after each trip to ensure that all components are functioning properly. Any issues or malfunctions must be reported immediately so that necessary repairs can be made.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adheres to all Salvadoran vehicular regulations, ensuring the safe operation of vehicles to protect passengers, other road users, and pedestrians.
- Maintains vehicle cleanliness, both interior and exterior, throughout the assigned shift to ensure a professional and safe environment.
- Conducts comprehensive daily Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), including before, during, and after each operational period, ensuring vehicles remain in optimal working condition.
- Coordinates the scheduling of vehicles for routine maintenance and repairs, ensuring timely and efficient service to minimize downtime.
- Prepares detailed transportation reports, documenting relevant operational data and ensuring accurate records for compliance and analysis.
- Responsible for ensuring vehicles are adequately fueled and ready for operational requirements at all times.
- Records and reports vehicle incidents, accidents, and any mishaps involving government-owned, leased, or rented vehicles and equipment, ensuring timely documentation in accordance with established procedures.
- Arranges regular pick-up and drop-off schedules for military and civilian personnel or groups, ensuring efficient and timely service.
- Conducts thorough inspections of vehicle systems, including tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water levels, and safety equipment, ensuring all components are fully operational and compliant with safety standards.
- Communicates effectively with CSL Dispatchers via radio, telephone, or computer, exchanging operational information and receiving requests for passenger transport services.
- Adheres to traffic laws and regulations while operating vehicles, ensuring a courteous and safe driving manner at all times.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of first-aid procedures to respond effectively to potential emergencies.
- Notifies CSL Dispatchers or the Transportation Department immediately of any vehicle malfunctions or issues requiring attention.
- Performs errands, such as the delivery or collection of mail, goods, materials, supplies, and packages, ensuring timely and accurate service.
- Executes minor vehicle repairs, such as fixing flat tires, and arranges for professional servicing when required to maintain vehicle functionality.
- Ensures the timely pick-up and drop-off of passengers at designated locations, adhering strictly to established schedules.
- Meets passengers at scheduled locations and appointments, providing efficient and reliable transportation services.
- Submits detailed reports documenting operational data, including passenger numbers, trips completed, hours worked, mileage driven, and fuel consumption.
- Assists passengers with entering and exiting vehicles, as well as managing luggage, ensuring a comfortable and courteous service experience.
- Provides passengers with relevant local area information, including recommendations for points of interest, accommodations, and dining options.
- Interprets maps and follows both written and verbal geographic directions to ensure the timely and efficient transport of passengers.
- Keeps accurate records of vehicle routes and provides documentation as required.
- Adjusts and regulates heating, lighting, and ventilation systems within the vehicle to optimize passenger comfort during travel.
- Reports delays, accidents, or other traffic-related issues using telephones or mobile two-way radios, ensuring that all incidents are communicated promptly to relevant personnel.
- Conducts interior and exterior cleaning of the vehicle, including vacuuming, washing, and polishing, to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
- Acts as the First Line of Defense (FLOD) by identifying potential risks to the program, including regulatory, technical, or financial concerns, and proactively addressing these issues.
- Ensures that safety standards are consistently met, working swiftly to resolve any safety-related issues and maintaining compliance with environmental and health regulations.
- Performs additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of transportation operations.
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a high school degree and a minimum of 1 year of directly related experience.
- Possess a valid / current Salvadoran issued Driver’s License with commercial / passenger endorsement.
- Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish required, with beginner English-speaking skills.
- Must be able to know the area and map out the best route within a set time frame.
- Basic math skills required.
- Must be capable of operating with very little supervision.
- Dependable, reliable, responsible, and fulfill obligations.
- Shift Work / Overtime: Requires an ongoing commitment to working overtime, rotating shifts as well as responding to emergency calls.
CITIZENSHIP – REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Must be a Citizen of the country of El Salvador.
- Must be able to successfully pass a Salvadoran National Police Security Investigation
- Must be able to successfully pass a US EMBASSY Security Background Investigation
- Must be able to successfully complete and pass a drug/alcohol test.
