Payroll & HRIS Manager

Own the Engine Behind the Employee Experience

The Opportunity

At NearU, we’re not just building a home services platform—we’re transforming the customer and employee experience through people, process, and technology.

NearU is a people-centric, process-driven, and technology-enabled customer service platform dedicated to revolutionizing the home services industry by vastly improving the customer and employee experience.

This role is four days on-site at our Charlotte Branch Service Center office.  Located at 2550 West Tyvola Road Charlotte, NC.

We’re looking for a detail-driven, systems-savvy Payroll & HRIS Manager who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. This role is more than processing payroll—it’s about owning a critical function that directly impacts every employee, every pay cycle.

You’ll lead payroll operations, optimize HR systems, and help scale a growing organization across multiple states and brands. If you love bringing order to complexity, improving processes, and being the go-to expert—this is your role.

What You’ll Own

Payroll Operations Excellence

  • Lead end-to-end payroll processing across ~30 companies with precision and consistency
  • Ensure accurate, timely payroll including salaries, benefits, taxes, garnishments, and deductions
  • Monitor compliance across multiple states and stay ahead of changing regulations
  • Serve as the final checkpoint for payroll accuracy and integrity

Process Optimization & Compliance

  • Analyze payroll processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
  • Support audits, reporting, and risk mitigation efforts
  • Continuously look for smarter, faster ways to get payroll done right

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2–3 payroll specialists
  • Create accountability, consistency, and high performance across the team
  • Roll up your sleeves and jump in when needed—you lead by doing

HRIS Ownership & Innovation

  • Act as the HRIS Subject Matter Expert (SME) and system super user
  • Manage day-to-day system functionality, configurations, and troubleshooting
  • Build and maintain reports that drive visibility and decision-making
  • Ensure systems are optimized to support a growing, multi-entity business

M&A Integration & Scaling

  • Lead payroll and HRIS integration for newly acquired companies
  • Establish payroll processes and system alignment across new entities
  • Train leaders and employees on systems, processes, and best practices
  • Help scale infrastructure as NearU continues to grow

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with Benefits to ensure accurate system feeds and deductions
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll questions and issues
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Operations to support business needs

Data Integrity & Employee Experience

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records
  • Ensure seamless processing of employee changes (hires, terminations, comp updates, etc.)
  • Support unemployment claims and related documentation
  • Deliver a smooth, reliable payroll experience employees can trust

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience managing payroll and HRIS systems
  • Strong expertise in multi-state payroll compliance and regulations
  • Experience leading payroll teams in a multi-entity environment
  • Advanced proficiency in payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Dayforce is a strong plus
  • Highly analytical with a process-improvement mindset
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communicator who can handle sensitive information with professionalism
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with shifting priorities

What Makes This Role Exciting

  • You’ll own a mission-critical function that impacts every employee
  • You’ll help scale systems and processes in a growing, acquisition-driven company
  • You’ll have the autonomy to improve, optimize, and build better workflows
  • You’ll be the go-to expert in both payroll and HR technology

Why This Role Matters

Payroll isn’t just a function—it’s a promise to employees. In this role, you ensure that promise is delivered accurately, consistently, and seamlessly, while building the systems and processes that support NearU’s continued growth.
