Job description:
We are seeking a Tax Filing Processor to join our remote team. The Tax Filing Processor plays a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate submission of all necessary tax filings related to Excess & Surplus Lines policies. This individual is responsible for verifying that required documentation complies with state-specific guidelines while maintaining attention to accuracy and compliance. This position supports the company's regulatory adherence efforts by handling filings on state websites or platforms like OPTins and processing tax payments. By performing these essential duties, the Tax Filing Processor contributes to the company's efficiency in meeting legal obligations and maintaining professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the filing of Excess & Surplus Lines taxes in compliance with legal requirements.
- Verify that submitted forms align with each state's unique regulatory needs.
- Execute filings on state websites or through platforms such as OPTins.
- Handle policy stamping and tax payments, ensuring adherence to state-mandated guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Surplus Lines license (preferred)
Work Experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in tax filing or a related field.
- Proven experience handling compliance-driven processes.
- Strong understanding of state tax regulations and Excess & Surplus Lines requirements.
- Proficient with electronic tax filing platforms, including OPTins.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills for internal and external collaboration.

Works well with underwriting, finance, and external brokers to obtain and verify information.

- Familiarity with surplus lines premium tax requirements, stamping offices, and state filing systems (e.g., SLIP, OPTins, ELANY, etc.).
- Accounting or Finance Fundamentals
Understanding of general ledger, reconciliations, and premium tax accruals.
- Data Management & Reporting
Comfort with Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP), databases, and carrier/broker reporting tools. Ability to prepare, submit, and store tax filings and supporting documentation properly. Experience with surplus lines filing platforms, carrier policy admin systems, or tax software. Can reconcile premium reports vs. filings and identify anomalies. Draft clear correspondence to brokers, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
