Basic Job Functions:

The Environmental Engineer position will have responsibilities for leading sustainability and environmental compliance for the division while maintaining environmental programs including air, water, waste, radiation, and ISO 14001.  The engineer is expected to work independently including managing environmental projects, overseeing contractors, and driving continuous improvement. Active engagement through team training, problem-solving, audits, community outreach, and positive communication with both State and Federal regulators is required.  Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or environmental-related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Initiative to drive for timely results and to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work with other departments.
  • Solid understanding of air pollution control equipment, radiation detection equipment, CEMS equipment, water & wastewater systems and monitoring equipment including their design, operation and maintenance.
  • Industrial, consulting or regulatory experience in environmental engineering, environmental compliance, environmental management or some combination thereof.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an engineering or environmental-related field.
