Job Summary/Objective:
The director for the Emergency Department (ED) provides leadership and administrative oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating all aspects of emergency and trauma nursing services. The director ensures efficient operations, maintains compliance with regulatory standards, and promotes a positive and safe environment for staff and patients.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises nursing staff within the ED, ensuring effective staff utilization and training.
- Oversees the work of paramedics, RNs, and support staff, providing mentorship and direction.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and standards for ED and Trauma Services.
- Oversee patient care processes to ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Recruit, train, and evaluate nursing staff; foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Manage department budgets, ensuring resource allocation aligns with operational needs and quality patient care.
- Monitor patient care outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives as necessary.
- Provide crisis and emergency management support, ensuring readiness for patient surges.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation and records in compliance with hospital regulations.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and legal regulations.
- Manage supply inventory and equipment, ensuring availability and operational readiness.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.

Education, Certificates, and License:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associates Degree required.
Certificates / License:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Missouri or the ability to obtain.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS), active or within 30 days of hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), active or within 6 months of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), active or within 6 months of hire
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 1 year of hire
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in emergency or trauma nursing preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory or leadership role within healthcare preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting: Regularly lift/move patients or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Mobility: Frequent walking, standing, and moving for extended periods.
- Posture: Bending, twisting, and reaching as needed during patient care.
- Dexterity: Fine motor skills for tasks like administering injections, changing dressings, or operating medical equipment.
