    The K-12 Numeracy Coach is a certified released math teacher who works to develop future mathematics leaders by supporting teachers of mathematics in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instruction and by fostering an environment of collaboration, reflection, and professional growth.
     
    This role reports to Director of Numeracy.
     
    Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Serve as a math specialist to assist in the development and implementation of instructional plans that align to network goals and curriculum.
    • Collaborate with Director of Numeracy and school leaders to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of curriculum to increase student success and close performance gaps.
    • Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to analyze student data, diagnose instructional needs, and identify research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps.
    • Provide teacher development through modeling standards-based instruction in math classrooms.
    • Collaborate with Director of Numeracy, school leaders, and teachers to review and develop aligned curriculum components including assessments.
    • Provide individual and/or group instructional coaching and mentoring to teachers to improve classroom instruction for all learners.
    • Conduct informal teacher observations and/or walk-throughs and provide feedback that facilitates teacher reflection and growth.
    • Facilitate collaborative planning with teachers to develop standards-based lessons and assessments aligned to network curriculum.
    • Distribute instructional resources to teachers and provide training on the use of those resources.
    • Encourage, support, and model the implementation of blended learning, GCS Signature Strategies, and other innovative practices in math classrooms.
    • Assist teachers in building an interactive classroom and assure that recommendations for improvement are implemented.
    • Collaborate with Director of Numeracy to identify and develop network needs in instruction, resources, and curriculum.
    • Lead and participate in on-going and job-embedded professional development (e.g. meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information related to math content knowledge, pedagogy, and coaching.

    • Specific knowledge of GCS instructional framework, TN Ready standards & assessments, and ACT College Readiness Standards
    • Specific knowledge of assessment and lesson design
    • General knowledge of serving special populations of learners
    • Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Specific knowledge of iMAC, Google Drive Software, and Schoology
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • Valid Tennessee teaching certificate
    • At least four years of successful math teaching experience
    • Experience in development, preparation, and presentation of professional development preferred
    • Experience in coaching adults preferred
