Job Summary: The Health and Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging instruction in physical education and health to students. The teacher promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and personal wellness while aligning instruction with state and district standards. The position fosters a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong health and fitness habits.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the district Health and Physical Education curriculum.
- Teach a variety of physical activities, fitness concepts, health education topics, and wellness strategies.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse physical abilities and learning needs of students.
- Integrate cross-curricular connections where appropriate.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations and provide timely, constructive feedback to students and families.
- Use evidence-based classroom and activity management strategies to maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive environment.
- Use evidence-based instructional strategies to ensure effective instruction, high student engagement, and continuous improvement in student performance.
- Manage physical education equipment, facilities, and supplies responsibly, including inventory and budgeting as required.
- Teach and enforce proper use and care of equipment and ensure adherence to safety protocols and injury prevention practices.
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Support students in setting and achieving personal fitness and wellness goals.
- Organize and facilitate games, activities, fitness testing, and school-wide wellness initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and program activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, fitness assessments, and student progress in accordance with school policies.
- Sponsor or assist with physical education-related extracurricular activities, intramurals, or athletic programs, as assigned.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Pennsylvania Department of Education certification in Health and Physical Education PK-12 required
- Submission of pre-employment medical examination
- Submission of the following clearances:
- Pennsylvania State Criminal History Record
- Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse History Clearances
- Federal Background Check (Fingerprints)
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
