We're looking for an intermediate Full Stack Product Engineer to join our team. 馃殌

At Optimal, we build powerful research tools that help teams make data-driven decisions. Trusted by some of the world鈥檚 biggest brands, we鈥檙e passionate about user experience and the transformative power of human insight.

The role

We鈥檙e looking for an Intermediate Full Stack Product Engineer who鈥檚 excited to grow their impact by contributing to the evolution of our platform.

You鈥檒l be part of a small, collaborative team where you won鈥檛 just be writing code - you鈥檒l be actively involved in shaping the direction of our products and understanding our customers so we can create the best possible product experience.

You鈥檒l work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to build solutions that balance user needs, technical quality, and business outcomes. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of projects, experiment with news ideas, and make a meaningful impact on a product used by reams all over the world. Your work will directly influence the way our customers solve problems and deliver outstanding experiences to their own users.

What you鈥檒l do:

  • Build impactful features: Use React, Ruby on Rails and AWS to design and develop new features that improve the customer experience research journey
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to build thoughtful solutions for real user needs
  • Contribute ideas: Share ideas to improve existing tools and help solve customer problems more effectively
  • Drive projects forward: Take ownership of your projects, ensuring they鈥檙e delivered with quality and alignment to user goals and feedback
  • Collaborate and learn: Share knowledge with the team, learn from others, and grow your engineering and product skills

What we're looking for:

  • Entrepreneurial: You like taking ownership, figuring things out with imperfect information, and moving ideas from concept to reality without needing everything defined upfront
  • Product-focused: You don't just build features, you care about why they matter. You think about the bigger picture and work closely with product managers and designers to shape solutions for our customers
  • Experience with our stack (or similar): React, Ruby on Rails, AWS, infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD technologies
  • Customer-focused: You care about building things that genuinely improve the user experience
  • Collaborative and proactive: You communicate well, ask good questions, and enjoy working as part of a team
  • Problem-solver: You can break down problems, work through ambiguity, and deliver practical solutions

What鈥檚 in it for you:

  • Competitive salary + Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP) to help you benefit from the long-term success of the company
  • Annual wellbeing allowance and support
  • Generous annual learning and development support
  • Home office set-up
  • An additional day off on your birthday
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Enhanced parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers
  • The chance to grow your impact and be part of a high performing team
  • Flexible and remote-first working (our HQ is based in Wellington, NZ, but this role can be based anywhere in New Zealand or Australia AEDT)

If this sounds like you, we鈥檇 love to hear from you. We鈥檒l be interviewing as applications come through.
