Job Description

The mission of the Education Justice project is to build a model college-in-prison program that demonstrates the positive impacts of higher education upon incarcerated people, the communities from which they come, the host institution, and society as a whole.

The Education Justice Project (EJP) seeks a dynamic, organized, and results-driven individual to join EJP as a Web Developer. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining EJP's websites.

This position is based on campus, with all work conducted virtually; prison clearance is not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update websites – Regularly update content, fix broken links, and ensure website accuracy for all EJP-affiliated websites.
  • Improve website navigation – Optimize site structure to ensure resources are easy to find.
  • Develop new features – Implement tools like a searchable database, interactive maps, and user-friendly submission forms.
  • Collaboration: Work closely across different teams to develop web solutions that support EJP's initiatives and enhance user experience.
  • Enhance accessibility – Ensure the websites comply with WCAG guidelines, making them user-friendly for all audiences and ensuring best accessibility practices.
  • Improve website security – Implement security best practices to protect user data and prevent vulnerabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years related experience as a Web Developer/Website Admin

Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Understanding of basic SEO and performance optimization.
  • Understanding of Google Analytics 4
  • Basic understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

While this is primarily a technical position, our expectation is that all EJP members will take advantage of offered opportunities to learn about criminal justice and incarceration and consider themselves a valued part of the wider EJP community.

Compensation:

Depends on status. Undergraduates start at $17/hour and graduate compensation depends on current GEO rates.
