Summary:
We’re seeking a skilled Test Engineer I to support the development & validation of AAON control solutions through product design and development testing. As a Test Engineer I, you will work closely with engineers to ensure end-to-end functionality aligns with product design, testing and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, innovative, and an excellent communicator who can bridge technical knowledge cross-functionally, including field service, engineers, and sales management.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Work directly with New Product Development teams and support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Prototyping and Assembly: Testing electronic circuits, PCBs, Embedded Software Sequences, and HVAC System configurations as part of the product development process.
Testing and Validation: Complete test procedures for system level testing and individual components, document findings, and recommend improvements.
Wire, configure, and construct custom test fixtures to support various system level production configurations.
Working closely with engineers, field services, sales, and other team members to develop and refine designs.
Conduct compliance testing to ensure products meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical support and guidance to other team members and departments as needed.
Utilize electric powered and manual hand tools (digital multimeter, soldering iron, drill, impact driver, wrench, ratchet, torque wrench, etc.)
Possess willingness to learn new skills and abilities. Advances professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reviewing new and upcoming HVAC system requirements, reviewing professional publications, and utilizing web-based resources.
Maintains product and company reputation by complying with company policies including confidentiality and compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations.
Review project plans for potential issues, potentially providing recommendations for methods of resolution.
Assist other engineers as may be required on various projects.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B. S.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, HVACR Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid licensed driver for independent travel to job sites as may be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Operational knowledge on commercial HVAC systems, preferably specific knowledge and experience with AAON equipment.
Basic knowledge and understanding of electrical or electronic systems, voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, inductance, relays, and the like.
Ability to read and comprehend machine wiring diagrams.
Ability to appropriately utilize a DVM in system troubleshooting.
Demonstrates strong leadership abilities.
Communicates effectively in written and spoken form.
Exhibits good decision making and problem solving abilities.
Demonstrates strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills.
Works with minimal supervision.
Works effectively in a team environment.
Works effectively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Able to adapt to and utilize various testing tools as may be required.
Work Environment:
Lift up to 10lbs.
Sit up to 85 percent of work hours.
Close vision, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color.
Primary work environment is in office; however, on rare occasions while traveling to a job site, the employee may be exposed to work in precarious, potentially hazardous places, outdoor weather conditions, work with equipment located on building rooftops and a risk of electrical shock.
Some travel is expected for this position. This is subject to change according to business needs.
