The Safety Compliance & Training Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs across swine production operations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety among employees. The specialist will lead training initiatives, conduct audits, and collaborate with farm managers to reduce risk and improve workplace safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and update safety policies and procedures specific to swine production environments
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and agricultural safety standards
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections across farms and facilities
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions
- Design and deliver safety training programs for new hires and existing employees (e.g., animal handling, biosecurity, equipment use, chemical safety)
- Maintain training records and compliance documentation
- Collaborate with farm managers and supervisors to identify hazards and implement preventative measures
- Monitor and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Stay current with industry regulations, best practices, and emerging safety trends
- Lead emergency preparedness planning, including drills and response protocols
- Liaison with First Responders to support emergency responses to include farm layouts, staging areas, and employee capabilities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to workplace safety and employee well-being
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Agriculture, Animal Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–5 years of experience in safety compliance, preferably in agriculture or livestock production
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and agricultural safety regulations
- Experience developing and delivering training programs
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and across multiple farm locations
- Proficiency in recordkeeping and safety management systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) certification
- Experience in swine production or livestock operations
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and on-site farm environments
- Exposure to livestock, dust, odors, and varying weather conditions
- Frequent travel between farm locations may be required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, and climb for extended periods
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and around animals
