Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

About the role

Please note that roles based out of SJS or Sunbury will move to Timber Square, Southwark, from Q4 2027.

The Business Development Lead plays a key role in supporting bp’s strategy by identifying, evaluating and delivering complex commercial opportunities across the Customers & Products portfolio, excluding biofuels.

Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development, Customers & Products, the role focuses primarily on opportunities in the EMEA region and is part of bp’s global business development organisation. The position works closely with regional C&P teams and functional partners to progress opportunities from early assessment through structuring, negotiation and internal approval.

Customers & Products brings together bp’s EV charging, lubricants, aviation, mobility & convenience, marketing and next‑generation businesses. Safety, integrity and disciplined commercial judgement underpin all activities within the role.

What you will deliver

  • Lead or support strategic business development initiatives across the C&P portfolio, including acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures, minority equity investments, lease structures and new commercial models.
  • Advance transactions through the full deal lifecycle, from screening and case development through valuation, due diligence, structuring and negotiation.
  • Prepare materials to support internal investment governance, including executive briefings, authority papers and submissions for senior decision forums
  • Work with cross‑functional stakeholders to assess risk, value drivers and strategic fit
  • Monitor market, regulatory and competitive developments relevant to the C&P businesses
  • Apply judgement when prioritising work, including recommending when activity should pause or change direction

What you will need to be successful

  • A relevant degree in business or a technical field; advanced qualifications are an advantage
  • Extensive experience in business development, commercial strategy, M&A or related areas
  • Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to advise on value drivers, financial performance, risk and strategic alignment
  • Demonstrated capability in valuation, economic analysis and investment appraisal, including complex transactions
  • Experience leading or steering aspects of cross‑functional due diligence and decision‑making processes
  • Exposure to acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures or equity partnerships
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders
