DCS Board Operator
POSITION DETAILS:
Job Type: Full-Time
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Swing shift
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Travel: No Travel
 
WHAT WE WILL EXPECT FROM YOU
In this role, the DCS Board Operator will be expected to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant by closely monitoring processes, maintaining operational parameters, and addressing issues in a timely manner. They will work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and other departments to ensure daily activities are carried out safely and effectively while maintaining high standards for product quality and operational performance. This position reports directly to the Production Shift Supervisor.
 
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Monitor and control plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous production.
  • Review plant performance and process conditions to maintain product quality, identify potential issues, and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Monitor, document, and track process variables, sample data, and routine operational tasks to ensure operations remain within established parameters.
  • Troubleshoot process issues and equipment malfunctions and communicate findings to appropriate teams to maintain reliable operations.
  • Communicate with production, maintenance, and other departments to support safe and efficient daily plant activities.
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures, including safe work practices, to ensure all operations are performed safely.
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in projects and initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing operating costs.
  • Support the Quality Assurance and Quality Control program by reviewing results and escalating concerns or deviations when appropriate.
  • Perform scheduled Operations Work Requests and other assigned operational tasks as directed by supervisors or plant management.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance or contractor work by ensuring proper isolation and safe conditions prior to service.
  • Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Safe Work Permits, and compliance with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements.
  • Support plant housekeeping and sanitation programs to maintain a clean and compliant facility.
  • Monitor and report inventory levels and usage of process chemicals and operational supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, and consistent plant operations.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Process Technology or equivalent preferred.
  • 2+ years of refinery/process chemical plant experience
  • Previous ethanol or manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain focus/respond to alarms/off normal conditions through use of computer based digital control system.
  • Ability to interface with computer-based control systems; ability to apply analytical and troubleshooting skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must wear and maintain company required Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to: FR pants/ long-sleeve shirt, safety glasses, hard hat, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves
  • Physically able to perform the following job essential functions, inclusive of but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, bending, walking long distances, lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying up to 50 pounds, work at heights, continuous work in confined spaces, ascend/ descend/ work from: stairs/ladders/scaffolding.
  • Must have the ability to work continuously in an environment inclusive of but not limited to: dust, loud noise(s), walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, outdoors, heat/cold, poorly illuminated areas.
