Job Description

MCS is hiring for a Switch Technician / Network Administrator at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. 

The Switch Technician / Network Administrator must demonstrate the ability to support the installation, maintenance, and administration of telecommunication systems, databases, and networks. The Switch Technician / Network Administrator will require good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team setting. It is important that candidates keep abreast of industry trends and developments, as well as applicable Government regulations. 

Typical duties include: 

  • Perform daily administration of telecommunications systems, including Avaya switching, CAIRS database updates, and voicemail platforms to support SIPR and NIPR operations
  • Execute Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC) across voice systems, including Avaya switches and Callware Technologies Callegra voicemail
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues related to telephony, voicemail, and network connectivity
  • Conduct daily system health checks on phone switches, servers, Cisco network equipment, and LEC circuits to ensure operational readiness
  • Administer and maintain CAIRS, UCE servers, and telecommunications databases, including Microsoft SQL Server configuration, queries, and reporting
  • Design and implement CAIRS workflows, work packages, call pattern masks, and custom reporting solutions across multiple switch platforms (Avaya, Tadiran, Nortel)
  • Manage telecommunications infrastructure, including routers, switches, secure modems, and remote access units, ensuring proper configuration, backup, and restoration
  • Maintain and update technical documentation, including SOPs, diagrams, system logs, and database records to ensure audit readiness and continuity
  • Coordinate with external carriers (e.g., AT&T, Verizon, Cable One) to troubleshoot and resolve service-related issues
  • Ensure compliance with DoD Information Assurance policies, perform system backups, support cybersecurity requirements, and provide on-site technical support and user training

Required: 
Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain DoD SECRET

Educational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent 

Certification Requirements: AIT II or Security+ is preferred. 

Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience programming and administering Unique Communication Solutions CAIRS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, stored procedures, and database-driven reporting solutions
  • Experience with Avaya CM6, Tadiran, and Nortel switch environments, including CDR reporting and analysis
  • Strong working knowledge of telecommunications systems administration, including Active Directory, CAIRS, and UCE environments
  • Expertise in Cisco networking (IOS, routers, switches) and overall configuration management best practices
  • Familiarity with DoD Information Assurance (IA) policies, cybersecurity protocols, and antivirus implementation
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance capabilities across telecommunications systems, with the ability to operate effectively under tight deadlines and support mission-critical operations
