    JOB DESCRIPTION:  

    To assume responsibility for the care, treatment and prevention of athletic injuries under the supervision of the team doctor or referring physician. Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate and implement an athletic training program that ensures students opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional, academic, and athletic potential. Provide basic instruction to athletic staff members regarding the prevention and care of injuries as the trainer’s schedule and availability permit. Train and supervise student trainers for athletic contests and practices. Ensure that all student/athletes are provided or referred for the proper medical care and treatment. Carry out appropriate instructions and treatment as directed by the athlete’s physician. Develop and supervise appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of physicians. Assist and advise the coaching staff regarding injury prevention, conditioning program and selection, and care and fitting of protective equipment. Determine if an injured player is capable of continued participation in a game and/or practice. Treat and/or supervise the treatment of all minor athletic injuries and conditions. Organize inventory and requisition all training room supplies. Make and/or assist with arrangements for scheduling athletic physicals for sports teams. Provide training supervision and share facilities/staff with visitors at all other major home meets, practices, tournaments, etc., involving a number of teams and a significant amount of time. Attend athletic events as the various sports calendars will permit with the extension of trainer services provided by student trainers, when appropriate.  Attends all varsity football games. Report all injuries to the athletic coach in change and keep an annual record of athletic injuries. Serve as a liaison with the school clinic program and be “on call” during the off-periods to provide emergency service to students and staff. Plan and organize emergency procedures for injured athletes. Communicate with parents regarding their student's injuries or conditions. Operate within the limitation of his/her license and abilities. Maintain NATABOC athletic trainer certificate status. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING:

     

    Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine or related field. Holds or eligible to apply for a State of Georgia Athletic Training License.

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

     

    Organizational, human relations and decision making skills. Ability to work with students in a Sports Medicine Program. Ability to perform emergency first aid procedures and CPR. Knowledge of technology as related to emergency procedures, physical conditioning and care of injuries.

     

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

     

    Successful athletic trainer experiences at the level to which assigned.
