Summary
Durand High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our athletic department as a Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. This seasonal position offers the opportunity to inspire young athletes, foster teamwork, and promote a positive athletic experience.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that focus on skill development, teamwork, and game strategy.
- Assist in the development and implementation of game strategies, plays, and conditioning programs.
- Coach and mentor student-athletes during games, providing guidance and support to enhance performance.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages sportsmanship and personal growth.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team policies, schedules, and expectations.
- Monitor and evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
- Collaborate with the head coach and other coaching staff to ensure a cohesive coaching approach.
- Uphold and enforce school policies, rules, and regulations regarding student-athlete conduct and eligibility.
- Attend all practices, games, and team meetings as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the head coach or athletic director.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience, preferably at the high school or youth level, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules of the game.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with student-athletes, parents, and staff.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to achieve their personal and team goals.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the season).
- A commitment to promoting a positive and respectful team culture.
- Must pass a background check as required by school district policy.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during the basketball season.
