UI/UX Designer

General Summary:
This position is responsible for designing and improving user interfaces and user experiences for internal, web-based, and enterprise software applications. The role works closely with software developers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to translate complex workflows and requirements into intuitive, accessible, and efficient system designs. Emphasis is placed on usability, consistency, accessibility, and continuous improvement to support accurate, secure, and effective system operation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with Harris County systems, justice-related workflows, or other large public-sector environments is a plus.
- Experience designing applications for complex, data-heavy, or workflow-driven systems.
- Understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), usability best practices, and responsive design principles.
- Experience working within established design systems or contributing to the development of shared UI standards.
- Knowledge of secure or regulated environments involving sensitive or confidential information.
- Industry-standard UI/UX design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or equivalent.
- Tools for creating wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, and design specifications.
- Working knowledge of modern web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to support effective collaboration with development teams.
- Understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.
Required Education / Experience:
- Bachelor�s degree in User Experience Design, User Interface Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a closely related field required.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Three (3) or more years of professional experience in UI/UX design, interaction design, or digital product design required.
- Demonstrated experience designing user-centered interfaces for web-based and/or enterprise applications.
- Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and translating findings into effective design solutions.
- Proficiency creating wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and design specifications using industry-standard tools.
- Experience collaborating closely with software developers, product owners, and stakeholders to ensure accurate and consistent implementation of designs.
