POSITION SCOPE AND PURPOSE: Provide technical support to a fast paced production environment by bringing existing products to their next level of excellence. Responsibilities include problem resolution, work cell layout and process flow, tool and equipment evaluation, secondary operation support, BOM adjustments, and packaging solutions. Need to be able to evaluate existing processes, research and propose efficiency gains, and support through proven implementation. Strong communication (verbal and written), computer and organizational skills are required. Must have experience in a production environment, plastics experience and degree are preferred.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify areas of waste in our manufacturing processes to include but not be limited to scrap and reject reduction, equipment downtime, earned hours per employee and process/equipment changeovers.
- Prioritize and manage projects and tasks necessary to deliver to the need of the customer(s). Efficiently utilizes available resources and engineering tools.
- Properly analyzes, develop and procure all aspects of a project from inception through successful completion for the life of program. Generate processes that are robust and exceed the criteria established by customer while supporting SMC's financial metrics.
- Leverage the available engineering resources and software to understand our manufacturing processes and data so that accurate decisions can be made. Generate clear and concise standard work instructions and other technical documents that are appropriate for the end user.
- Regular attendance.
OTHER POSITION DUTIES:
- Support production; improve efficiencies in all aspects of the production environment.
- Recommend and implement process improvements and corrective actions to include but not limited to design changes, automation, and equipment improvements.
- Evaluate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products; evaluate instructions, layout, adherence to standards, capability and results.
- Provide technical support for the continual improvement of operation and products, with emphasis on improving competitive advantage and determining appropriate applications of the latest technology that supports that strategic plan.
- Analyze and evaluate manufacturing methods and provide solutions for problems that adversely affect costs, operator safety, productivity, and quality.
- Provide support to other departments as needed.
- Improve overall process and related issues by soliciting input from surrounding teams and customers.
- Recommend and test various machinery and equipment for improved manufacturing methods.
- Conduct and document time studies to establish performance standards.
- Inform planning/scheduling of any existing issues on production jobs that may affect customer orders.
- Recommend BOM/drawing/specification changes to engineering for update.
- Permanent corrective actions are to be determined and implemented.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors of Science in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical skills in manufacturing processes i.e. molding, tooling and all value added operations and methods including flow, layout, assembly and production equipment.
- Computer proficiency.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- A strong team player that promotes a team atmosphere.
- A positive and courteous attitude.
- Tour ready appearance all hours, every day.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to work for extended periods sitting and looking at computer while completing repetitive motions to include substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; reviewing detailed information; viewing a computer terminal; and expansive reading.
- The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
- Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, and Hearing.
- This position works in a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical current.
