Job Summary:
Directs the environmental services and laundry staff to ensure the facility is maintained in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition to meet DNV, state and local standards. Supervises staff and prepares budgets and reports. Provides staff leadership and makes sound business decisions in support of the hospital’s mission and vision. Demonstrates leadership; by providing an optimal environment for patient care, safety, service and value. This is a working manager position. The EVS Manager is expected to perform hands-on environmental services duties—including cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms, common areas, and ancillary spaces—for the majority of each shift, while also fulfilling supervisory and administrative responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures and standards of work.
- Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Maintains proficiency in all techniques and equipment used by the Environmental Services Department.
- Ensures that quality standards are met by inspecting completed work.
- Makes recommendations for changes in supplies, equipment or procedures to improve safety and patient care or to reduce costs.
- Maintains good working relationships with other departments.
- Investigates documents and reports all unusual occurrences.
- Ensures that patient care units are adequately stocked with linen.
- Monitors linen usage and reviews statistics.
- Ensures all equipment is tested regularly.
- Schedules staff for proper coverage of the facility.
- Conducts orientation and ongoing training for departmental staff.
- Provides regularly scheduled in-services to departmental staff.
- Maintains records of orientation and in-service training programs.
- Responsible for completing performance evaluations.
- Participates in information management, performance improvement and infection prevention and control programs.
- Represents and participates in committees and task forces as assigned by the Director of Plant Operations.
- Meets the standard of compliance with federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
- Supports and carries out the facility policies.
- Performs all aspects of Environmental Services supervision in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Maintains and ensures age-specific precautions.
- Establishes and annually reviews standards and work procedures for all housekeeping staff.
- Responsible for hiring process; interview, hiring and training of new associates
- Prepares the annual departmental budget and monitors expenditure throughout the year.
- Coordination of outside services (i.e. Pest Control, Medical and Solid Waste).
- Actively performs hands-on environmental services work (cleaning, disinfecting, floor care, and related tasks) for the majority of each shift as a working manager, serving as a role model and resource for departmental staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education Background and Experience Requirements:
Minimum Education: | Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. |
Required Licensure / Certifications: |

Required Experience: | A minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare environmental services. |
Preferred Qualifications: | Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) certification preferred. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Experience with Microsoft office, EPIC. Understanding of lean and continuous performance improvement methodologies. Familiar with Green Guide for Health Care (GGHC) and LEED standards. |

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation in increments increases annually.
