Job Description
  1. Maintain the integrity of ASUMH's Human Resources activities and proper records management.

     

  2. Monitor, review and communicate the implementation of the HR department's strategic plan. Plan long-range goals, objectives, organizational structure and overall direction of the HR department. Participate in organizational management meetings to encourage continuous improvement.

     

  3. Interpret policy and procedures and provide information and consultation to faculty and staff regarding personnel related matters such as performance evaluations, employee discipline, recruiting and retention problems, classifications, and grievances. Review the appointment, promotion, demotion, discipline and all other actions toward employees.

     

  4. Oversee all recruitment and hiring activities. Advertise for all new and vacant positions within the university.

     

  5. Evaluate and enhance orientation and onboarding programs for new employees, providing comprehensive guidance on all benefit offerings—including retirement plans, health, dental, vision, life insurance, wellness programs, and other available employee benefits—while counseling new employees on enrollment, eligibility, and long-term planning.

     

  6. Administer and oversee all employee benefit programs, including retirement, health, dental, vision, life insurance, and wellness initiatives; process claims; respond to employee inquiries; and communicate with providers regarding issues and changes. Plan, direct, and staff the annual Benefits Fair to promote awareness of all benefit offerings and attend and contribute information to the ASU System Fringe Benefits Committee.

     

  7. Work closely with payroll to oversee deductions for insurances, flexible spending plan, changes in employment, etc.

     

  8. Oversee worker's compensation claims and ensures claims are paid.

     

  9. Address unemployment insurance claims and coordinate directly with Department of Workforce Services.

     

  10. Administer the employee performance evaluation system. Coordinate with supervisors in evaluating departmental employees.

     

  11. Assess training needs of the institution's employees and provide training opportunities to meet those needs.

     

  12. Serve as ex-officio member or standing member to various committees, including both Faculty and Staff Grievance Committees, Catastrophic Leave Committee, various Search Committees, Staff Senate, and Chancellor's Council. Serve in numerous ad hoc committees as needed.

     

  13. Communicate regularly with the ASU System Vice President of Human Resources and ASU System Legal Counsel regarding matters of internal policy, legislation, and employment law. Work closely with other HR directors within the ASU System regarding interpretation/implementation of policies and procedures.

     

  14. Communicate regularly with governing agencies regarding policies and procedures, pay plan structures, classification of positions, provisional positions, position usage reports, Personal Services Recommendations, and other matters.

     

  15. Research and complete required reports for ADHE, OPM, OCR, IPEDS, BLR. Other reporting duties may include timely response to numerous FOIA requests.

     

  16. Oversee and coordinate the ASUMH Wellness Program, including managing the budget, organizing events, etc.

     

  17. Evaluate and enhance off-boarding for employees. Communicate options on benefits, COBRA, retirement, etc. Conduct exit interviews.

     

  18. Ensure job descriptions for all positions are accurate and up to date.

     

  19. Develop an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, continued improvement, team-work, and high performance.

     

  20. Oversee special projects when needed, i.e. software implementation, compensation task force, etc.

     

  21. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
