Job Summary
The Director of Public Manager Research leads Moneta’s public markets investment research function, overseeing a multi-asset team responsible for manager evaluation, due diligence, and maintenance of the firm’s Recommended List across equity, fixed income, and listed real assets. Reporting to the Managing Director of Strategy and Research, this role serves as the primary investment resource for advisor teams and clients and is a key contributor to the firm’s investment philosophy and research governance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Direct all public markets manager research across all investment options and asset classes, including domestic and international equities, fixed income, listed real assets, and thematics, in mutual fund, ETF, commingled, and separately managed account structures.
- Maintain and enhance Moneta’s Recommended List by identifying, evaluating, and monitoring investment strategies through a full market cycle.
- Lead ongoing manager due diligence, including qualitative and quantitative assessment of investment strategies, portfolio construction, risk management, organizational stability, and fee competitiveness.
- Manage and develop a team of investment research analysts, including workload prioritization, performance oversight, and professional development.
- Serve as the primary investment resource for advisor partner teams and clients, providing guidance on manager selection, asset class dynamics, and portfolio construction.
- Produce regular internal communications including manager updates, asset class commentary, and performance reviews for distribution to advisor teams and clients.
- Collaborate with the CIO and Managing Director of Strategy and Research to execute the department’s strategic plan and ensure the research platform meets evolving advisor and client needs.
- Partner with the Centralized Portfolio Management team to support fund changes in model portfolios, ensuring alignment with overall portfolio strategy and client objectives.
- Oversee research governance, including evaluation frameworks, review cadences, and documentation standards across all public investment strategies.
- Represent the Investment Department in client-facing settings, firmwide forums, and external conferences.
- Collaborate with Compliance, Operations, Technology, and Data teams to ensure regulatory adherence, seamless implementation of research decisions, and continued enhancement of research tools and platforms.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
- 10 or more years of investment experience in asset management, wealth management, or an RIA environment, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or senior analyst capacity.
- Demonstrated expertise in multi-asset manager research, including mutual funds, ETFs, SMAs, and alternative vehicles across equity, fixed income, and real assets.
- Proficiency with Bloomberg and Morningstar Direct, and strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Experience leading and managing a team of investment professionals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex investment concepts to audiences at varying levels of sophistication.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS Finance) or supplementary credentials such as CFP, CAIA, or FRM.
- Experience in an RIA, multi-family office, or wealth management firm serving high- and ultra-high-net-worth clients.
- Prior direct experience working with clients across multiple wealth segments.
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools in an investment or financial services context, including AI-assisted research platforms and automation tools for analytical workflows.
