Job Description

The Part Time Research Medical Assistant ensures the integrity and quality of clinical trials are maintained and conducted in accordance w/ federal, state, and local regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals, and OMRC policies, and procedures, while providing excellent patient care.  This position is responsible for the accurate completion of visit procedures and collection of information for study patients according to protocols, and for protecting the health, safety, and welfare of research participants.  The Research MA is an important liaison between the provider and the patient/family as well as other care members at Peak and helps coordinate patient flow assisting in clinical data collection and review of patient intake, along with ensuring appropriate information is available to the provider and recording pertinent history accurately  in the medical record.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Provide professional care for patients within the medical office practice and support medical providers by scheduling tests appointments, referrals, pre-authorizations, monitoring of vital signs, and answering patient/family questions.

  • Ensure compliance with research protocols by reviewing all protocol requirements to confirm implementation of appropriate methods, practices, and procedures for all clinical activities.

  • Support recruitment and selection of study participants by documenting medical history to determine compliance with eligibility requirements.

  • Administer study medications and performing patient assessment during study visits to determine presence of side effects to medication; notifies appropriate personnel of findings/issues.

  • Provide patient education and medical information to study patients to ensure understanding of proper medication dosage, administration, and disease treatment.

  • Document medical data in subject chart to ensure availability of timely records for decision making.

  • Collaborate with medical provider in meeting identified patient needs to ensure continuity of care, and review and carry out orders timely and in accordance with Peak policies. 

  • Respond to emergencies including use of CPR.

  • Complete annual competencies, required CME’s and re-certification of licensing, as required by Peak policies and licensing requirements.

  • Attend all mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and participate in emergency drills.

  • Participate in orientation and training of new employees, as assigned.
