Description

Summary/Objective:

The Accounting Manager position has a critical role, managing the day-to-day operation of the accounting department as well as collaborating with other departments within the organization. This role is responsible for managing accounting systems while ensuring a strong understanding of operational systems and data. They will work alongside project management teams in our operations department and assist with financial analysis for the VP of Finance.

The successful candidate will have a positive, professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal skills and will be able to work as a team player. The nature of the work will require that the candidate demonstrate initiative and responsibility and be flexible/adaptive to a fast-paced and fluid business environment. The Accounting Manager candidate should be able to communicate effectively and decisively with all levels of the organization and able to solve practical problems.

Essential Functions:

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and quarterly debt covenant reports.
  • Post journal entries for the month-end close process related to assigned GL accounts.
  • Analyze financial data (budgets, forecasts, and variance reports) to provide insights and recommendations to VP of Finance.
  • Support year-end income tax reporting and coordinate annual CPA audits.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Monitor daily cash flow and perform bank account reconciliations.
  • Lead the accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting.

Payroll & Employee Reimbursements:

  • Responsible for weekly payroll processing.
  • Reconcile employee benefits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee employee expense reimbursement process.

Compliance & Tax Reporting:

  • Adhere to internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory filings, annual reporting, and corporate insurance audits.
  • Oversee preparation of 1099s and other year-end tax form submissions.

 

Job Costing & Project Accounting:

  • Maintain Work in Progress (WIP) Report for all active projects/contracts.
  • Exhibit proper communication and collaboration with project management teams on project status, client specific items and areas of concern for project completion.
  • Oversee job costing processes, ensuring accurate allocation of revenue and expense to projects.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting department and implement best practices.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial reporting standards.
  • Performs ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to learn new systems quickly, possess a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills.  Experience managing multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating a sense of urgency.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related field.
  • 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
  • Experience processing payroll and reconciling/administering employee benefit accounts.
  • Experience in multi-jurisdiction payroll/sales tax reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with ERP (Accounting) systems.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Position is a standard office environment.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods of time working at a computer.
  • Employees need to be able to lift 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects.

Office & Travel:

  • Position based at the corporate office location with minimal travel.
