The Medical Assistant Program Chair works under the direct supervision of the Director of Learning and Student Services and Director of Academics. The Program Chair is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and assessment of program curricula; supporting the campuses in the hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating program instructors; supporting student retention goals; recommending the purchasing of supplies and equipment; developing community contacts and chairing advisory board meetings; staying abreast of trends, issues, and practices, including effective teaching strategies and assessment methods; and providing support for program and institutional initiatives.



 



Job Duties and Responsibilities



 



Program Curriculum




  • Oversee the design, development, revision, and assessment of curricula, including course objectives, instructional methods, learning outcomes, test, assignments, projects, and assessment measures in conjunction with accreditation and state guidelines

  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus

  • Recommends resources to support the program



Faculty Development




  • Assist campuses with training, mentoring and evaluating instructors. Maintain the continuity and relevance of the program curriculum by regularly sharing information with the Instructors, Lead Faculty and campus management

  • Schedules and attends program meetings and academic in-service workshops.  Advises facility of professional growth workshops

  • Ensure program faculty remains current in licensure, certification, and professional development, as well as transcripts and ABHES faculty data sheets

  • Assist in the annual evaluation of program faculty



Student Retention




  • Monitors program retention and graduate placement rates to ensure program meets or exceeds accreditation standards and makes curriculum updates as needed to improve outcomes



General




  • Oversee classroom design and recommend program equipment, supplies, library materials, textbooks, and other items for purchase and use; monitor the safety and quality of instructional materials

  • Develop strong working relationships to better negotiate with suppliers and vendors, and monitor purchases to adhere to corporate budget

  • Where applicable, ensure safety and sanitation of all labs, equipment and supplies

  • Manage special projects assigned by the Director of Learning and Student Services such as assistance with accreditation preparation, campus events, or supervision of staff

  • Attend Advisory Board meetings as needed, and develop community contacts that can assist with job placement, externship site set-up, and community involvement

  • Analyze advisory committee recommendations and implementation as needed

  • Analyze surveys (employer, student, and faculty) and student outcomes from certification exams for areas of improvement and recommendation

  • Conduct observations to evaluate faculty, equipment, supplies, and adherence to curriculum, policies and procedures

  • Assist with training in campus leadership, Admissions, and Career Services regarding product knowledge/program requirements

  • Complete, at a minimum, one annual training for the improvement of education-related management skills and one training course specific to the distance education pedagogy
