Field Technician

Tidal Power Services, founded in 2003, is a company that specializes in medium and high voltage electrical equipment maintenance, commissioning, testing, repair, and upgrades serving the industrial, generation, and utility markets.  Our team works closely with customers along the Gulf Coast and throughout the country to provide quality services and expertise as it relates to power systems and their reliability.  We employ a team of skilled Field Technicians, Engineers, and support staff in 4 office locations in Texas and Louisiana.    

Overview of the Position:

This role performs electrical testing and commissioning of, but not limited to, testing and maintenance of low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment.  The role will work on site in Petro-chem, generation, utility, and heavy industry environments.  A Field Technician is expected to work as part of a larger team, testing and evaluating equipment to ensure safe and proper operation. 

Daily duties include the following:

  • Perform electrical installation and maintenance services on electrical equipment, substations, and switchgear included (but not limited to) the following:
    • Protective relays
    • Current and potential transformers
    • Power Cables
    • Grounding
    • Station Batteries and Chargers
    • Power transformers
    • Circuit breakers
    • Motors and Motor Starters
    • Station Batteries and Chargers
    • Alarm Systems and Annunciators
  • Perform troubleshooting and provide recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs.
  • Generate technical reports upon completion of scope of work.
  • Represent the company to the client in a professional manner.
  • Operate specialized test equipment including but not limited to: Power Factor Test set, Megohmmeters, AC/DC volt-ohm-millimeters, various kinds of hand-held power and non-power tools, etc.
  • Ability to make electrical measurements, mechanical adjustments, assemble and disassemble parts/equipment correctly.
  • Read and understand instruction manuals.
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear.
  • Complete the required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Must be willing and able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out of town jobs.
  • Must be willing and able to work regular overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays

Other duties as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Electrical technology, Power, or Engineering
  • Relevant military experience in electrical or generation systems

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working as an electrical technician or associate degree in electrical engineering technology
  • Knowledge of various industry standards such as: NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA.
  • Good theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem solving.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers and peers.
  • Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
  • Good customer service, time management and follow-up skills.
  • Work effectively with customers, peers, and management to resolve client issues.
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office- use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research.
