SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Lab Supervisor, the Lab Inspector provides QC Test Support functions for the Laboratory Department, all IES Terminals including Kapolei and Neighbor Islands, and Retail locations. Desired competencies include, but not limited to, proven analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment. The Lab Inspector is expected to have sound knowledge of Excel, Word Microsoft Office Suite programs. Prior relevant experience in refinery, and/or manufacturing industries is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Performs a wide variety of tests on fuel samples and finished products per established procedures.
- Test methods vary from simple methods such as density/gravity, color, and viscosity to more complex methods such as knock (octane) testing, automatic distillation and titration, gas chromatography, etc.
- Checks test results against specifications.
- Provides analysis and test results that are technically sound, legally defensible, free of undue influence within an agreed upon timeframe.
- Validates data, performs calculations, and reports test results.
2. Quality Control/Quality Assurance
- Utilizes standard Quality Control / Quality Assurance processes to ensure accuracy and precision of results.
- Participates in laboratory audits.
3. Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Checks and calibrates equipment, reviews test methods, and performs minor preventive or corrective maintenance within an agreed upon timeframe.
- Ability to identify Test Equipment issues and Erroneous Test results.
4. Workload Management & Communication
- Handles multiple, concurrent assignments while managing priorities with customers.
- Review issued electronic communications such as Information & Job Tasks for the Day, Email audible directives, and routine duties for the shift are completed.
5. Safety & Housekeeping
- Accountable for maintaining general housekeeping of assigned work area.
- Conduct Fire & Safety equipment inspections in the Laboratory.
- Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, comply with all safety laws and IES safety policies/rules and report actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel to further IES core value of safety.
6. Teamwork & Professional Conduct

PAY AND BENEFITS:
This is a negotiated union position and is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 1260. The starting hourly pay rate is $36.05/hour. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee reference check, drug test, criminal background check and a five-year motor vehicle history check. Incumbent must also submit to and successfully pass a physical and functional capacity evaluation. This is a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.
