Job Description

Job Title: Hall Monitor

Salary: Consistent with existing Collective Bargaining Agreement salary schedule

Reports To: School Principal/Vice Principal

Hours: 7 hours per day/5 days per week (Student Instructional Days only)

Building: Northeast Scranton Intermediate School 


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To assist in maintaining a safe school environment for students and staff.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Regulates, monitors, and directs the activities of pupils outside and within a school building and adjacent areas when the pupils are not engaged in classroom activities.
  2. Assists instructional staff in maintaining order and surveillance.
  3. Performs routine clerical and other work related to the position when not involved in pupil supervision.
  4. Patrols and inspects school buildings and adjacent areas before, during, and after school hours to maintain orderly conditions.
  5. Assists teachers in serious disciplinary cases.
  6. Monitors students during lunch periods.
  7. Patrol district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
  8. Conduct and patrol inspections of doors, windows, and gates to determine they are secure.
  9. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or retains them, and calls the police for assistance if necessary, according to district policy.
  10. Makes written reports of security violations.
  11. Checks student hall passes.
  12. Keeps building clear of people not on official school business.
  13. Assists visitors by giving directions and needed explanations.
  14. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to reach above and below the waist.
  2. Ability to use fingers to pick up, feel, or grasp objects.
  3. Ability to lift and carry supplies and papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.
  4. Ability to sit, stand, walk and move throughout the building and grounds for extended periods of the work day.
  5. Must pass a physical.
