    The Highland Local School District has an opening for one (1) High School Counselor Long
    Term Substitute for the 2026/2027 School Year.

    CERTIFICATION: Pupil Services License: School Counselor (27020)
    [Additional certification in another teaching field preferred]

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Appropriate school counselor license required.
    2. Strong undergraduate grade point average � (preferable above 3.0/B average) from
        the institution granting the bachelor's diploma with demonstrated expertise in both
        content and pedagogy.
    3. Successful documented performance as a counselor or pre-service intern counselor of high
         school students.
    4.  Demonstrates competence and knowledge of mental health referral pathways; multi-tiered
         systems of support; interventions for significant, mild, or emerging mental health needs.
    4. Has successfully navigated the college admission process for a variety of colleges and can
        guide students to select, apply, and compete for admission.
    5. Uses qualitative and quantitative data to guide and inform practice and decision-making
        related to student achievement, course selection, and career guidance.
    6. Makes effective use of technology to collect, evaluate, and report data.
    7. Has background and experience to effectively communicate and facilitate discussions
        between students, parents, and staff.
    8. Uses research-supported approaches to counseling individual students and facilitating small
        groups.
    9. Knows legal requirements for confidentiality, reporting, and instruction.
    10. Shows enthusiasm and passion for helping each student design personal college or career
          pathways.
    11. Has knowledge and experience with effective practices for developing and managing a high
          school schedule.
    12. Willing to work collaboratively with colleagues and administration to improve instruction
          and analyze student progress.
    13. Possesses the knowledge, capabilities, and dispositions to develop as a reflective practitioner
          and continuous learner.

    SALARY:
    The person selected to fill this position will be placed at BA Step 0 of the salary schedule 
    contained in the negotiated agreement between the HEA and the Highland Board of Education.
