Description
Position Summary: Responsible for the processing and analyzing of laboratory specimens and reporting of test results in all areas of the clinical laboratory. Maintains laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science with at least 1 year of experience as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist or
• Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with associate degree in Medical Technology
• Certified as an MLS, IMLS, MT or IMT (by ASCP, ASCPi, AMT, AAB or ISCLT)
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Process, result and report lab specimens in the clinical laboratory.
• Perform and analyze serological, biochemical, bacteriological, immunohematological, hematological, chemistry, immunochemistry, phlebotomy, urinalysis, virology and coagulation tests.
• Maintain lab records & equipment.
• Follow lab policies & procedures (including Emergency Disaster Plans).
• Perform other duties as assigned. Properly collects blood samples from newborn to deceased using venipuncture or skin puncture technique.
• Properly documents the laboratory request slip to contain collection date, time, initials, ICD10 codes, ABN signatures and signed orders.
• Labels specimen tubes with collection date, time, initials and patient information.
• Process and Maintain Quality Control specimens/practices as required by Laboratory policies.
• Performs proficiency testing surveys as assigned.
• Proficient use of various Laboratory and Hospital Information software programs.
• Properly communicates STAT or Critical Value results.
• Participates in departmental quality improvement activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Operates the following equipment correctly and safely: photometer, spectrograph, colorimeter, and microscope
