Job Description

The Senior LNG Plant Engineer serves as a key technical authority responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Northeast Energy Center’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility. This position blends engineering design, project execution, and operational support, providing both strategic guidance and hands-on technical expertise across all facility systems.

The Engineer will lead initiatives focused on plant performance optimization, system reliability, and continuous improvement, ensuring all activities comply with 49 CFR 193, NFPA 59A, OSHA, and applicable state and local codes.

Core Responsibilities

Engineering and Technical Leadership

·       Provide engineering direction for LNG process systems, including gas pretreatment, liquefaction, boil-off gas (BOG) recovery, cryogenic storage, vaporization, utilities, and electrical and control systems.

·       Develop and review process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and engineering calculations.

·       Identify process improvements to enhance plant availability, efficiency, and safety performance.

·       Support root-cause analysis and implement technical solutions to recurring equipment or process issues.

Project Development and Execution

·       Lead engineering projects from concept through commissioning, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and documentation.

·       Manage contractor and vendor interfaces, ensuring alignment with NEC standards and regulatory requirements.

·       Prepare bid specifications, evaluate proposals, and recommend contract awards.

·       Oversee project performance, ensuring adherence to safety, cost, and schedule objectives.

Operations and Reliability Support

·       Collaborate with operations and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot process and equipment issues.

·       Support equipment upgrades, retrofits, and control system enhancements through formal Management of Change (MOC) procedures.

·       Maintain and improve technical documentation, including drawings, system descriptions, and engineering standards.

·       Recommend predictive and preventive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety

·       Ensure all designs, modifications, and activities conform to applicable codes and standards, including 49 CFR 193, NFPA 59A, and OSHA 1910.

·       Participate in safety and risk assessments such as PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, and facility siting studies.

·       Contribute to internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance reporting.

·       Promote a strong safety culture and drive proactive risk-management initiatives.

Strategic and Continuous Improvement

·       Support development of long-term capital plans, engineering standards, and technical roadmaps.

·       Evaluate emerging technologies and methods to reduce costs, emissions, and maintenance burden.

·       Provide engineering input to support budget planning, reliability programs, and asset lifecycle management.

·       Lead or support cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving operational excellence.

Working Environment

·       Primarily office-based with regular field engagement at the LNG facility.

·       Requires physical capability to access process areas and inspect operating equipment.

·       Periodic extended hours may be required during major projects, commissioning, or plant outages.
