Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Familiarize yourself with all school sites at which you may substitute.

 

  1. Dress professionally, setting a good example for the students.

 

  1. Report promptly to the main campus office when you arrive at the school.  Familiarize yourself with routine procedures such as class schedules, lunch times, referring students to the office, etc.

 

  1. Familiarize yourself with emergency operations plans for the campus and how to account for all students in case of an emergency.

 

  1. Assume all the responsibilities of the regular classroom teacher/bus driver/custodian/food service worker including his/her special duties.  A substitute is not employed simply to maintain order.  The substitute is expected to remain at the school site for the entire length of the day or assignment.

 

  1. Maintain confidentiality with all student records and information.

 

  1. Maintain the same professional and ethical standards as the staff member for whom you substitute when dealing with students, parents, and school staff.

 The following for substitute teachers only:

  1. Review and follow the lesson plans furnished by the regular teacher, to include, but not limited to, the following (if a teacher substitute):

 

    1. Secure materials and equipment necessary to complete the lesson plans.
    2. Start class promptly after the bell.
    3. Contact the principal or designee immediately if lesson plans are not available.

 

  1. Keep all students in your classroom under supervision at all times.  NEVER leave a class unattended.

 

  1. Observe the principles of good classroom control and management.  If a problem occurs that you are unable to manage, contact the principal or designee immediately for assistance.  DO NOT create situations that encourage students to challenge your authority.

 

  1. Leave the classroom in “proper” order.  You are legally responsible for the pupils, equipment, and materials.

 

  1. Prepare a written account summarizing classroom activities, assignments and any comments for the regular teacher (NOTE:  if necessary or teacher request).

 

  1. Accurately report class and homeroom attendance according to the procedures at the assigned school.

 

  1. Notify the school administration immediately should an accident, illness or discipline problem occur.
