Job Description
Position Title: Director of Career Curriculum and Instruction
Department: Office of Career Programs and Employer Relations
Reports To: Senior Director of Career Programs and Employer Relations
 
Position Summary
 
The Director of Career Curriculum and Instruction oversees the university-wide career and vocation curriculum, hiring and supporting adjunct instructors, and collaborating with university stakeholders to enhance career exploration and professional skill development. Reporting to the Senior Director of Career Programs and Employer Relations, this position plays a key role in scaling and refining Dominican's core career curriculum. This role requires occasional nights and weekends and travel may be required.
 
 
Duties/Responsibilities
 
  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Career Program and Employer Relations, the Director of the Core Curriculum, the Career Programs team, faculty, and Deans in Dominican University’s colleges and academic programs:
    • Maintain and refine the career and vocation curriculum for the Career and Vocation courses (CV 100, 200, 300 and 400) and the Career Practicum courses (CP 355, 365) in consultation with the Director of the Core Curriculum, the Director of the Honors Program, and other faculty
    • Manage over 40+ sections of career and vocation courses each semester
    • Update the curriculum each summer, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Career Programs and Employer Relations, career and vocation instructors, faculty from Dominican’s academic programs across colleges, the Directors of the Core Curriculum and the Honors Program, and other university stakeholders
    • Conduct and monitor university and Career Programs course evaluations each semester
    • Contribute to ongoing assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of the career and vocation courses as part of Dominican University’s core curriculum
    • Serve on the Core Curriculum Committee
  • In collaboration with the Director of the Core Curriculum, CPER Office Manager, and the Deans of each college:
    • Recommend career and vocation adjunct instructors for hire
    • Support gathering and maintaining complete faculty files for each adjunct instructor
    • Onboard, train and support career and vocation adjunct instructors
  • Coordinate the career and vocation course schedule each semester and communicate with the Registrar’s Office and other key stakeholders
  • Manage assessment and evaluation data collection for career and vocation courses and assist in presenting data and other information to internal and external audiences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors
 
Required Qualifications
 
  • Master’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in career development, employer relations, or similar role
  • Broad community or university experience and commitment to working with Hispanic, low-income, first-generation, and/or other under-represented students and services that fit their needs
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum management, instructional design, and pedagogy
  • Experience collaborating with senior leaders and a wide range of internal (e.g., students, faculty, staff, and administrators) and external (e.g., employer partners, diverse professional associations, and executive-level corporate leaders) constituents at a complex organization
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills preferred to support engagement with diverse populations. knowledge, skills, abilities
  • Ability to develop, organize, and independently manage a variety of projects simultaneously and meet all required deadlines
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite: OneDrive, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in use of relevant technologies (e.g., Learning Management systems [LMS] such as Canvas, Payroll Management systems [Paycor], Career Management systems [CMS] such as Handshake and UConnect, Applicant Tracking systems [ATS], and Customer Relations Management systems [CRM])
 
Physical Demands
  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Salary and FLSA Status
  • Salary: $77,000 - $80,000
  • FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time, 37.5 hours
